The colored wear indicator is comprised of a material placed within or between the tread of the tire having a color opposed to the body of the tire. Additionally, the wear indicator may be comprised of a second color opposed to the first color indicating that the tires pose a severe danger through continued use. A plurality of layers is provided to show increased danger as the wear becomes greater.

Objects of the present invention:
- to provide a wear indicator for a tire
- to provide a wear indicator that functions as a time indicator
- to provide a wear indicator comprised of a material having a color opposed to the color of the tire
- to provide a wear indicator that is contained within or between the tread of the tire
- to provide a wear indicator having a shape that increases in size as the tread decreases in height
