As attorney for the inventor of the innovative new Light Guard we are currently seeking manufacturing companies to license, purchase patent rights or enter into a royalty agreement for this timely invention. Interested parties can reach the attorney at the contact numbers listed at the bottom of this page.

Lamps are commonly used to provide means for both light and heat for living creatures contained in an aquarium and/or terrarium habitat. The health of the living creatures depends on the availability of such energy sources. Depending on the type of living creature (reptile, bird, rodent, fish), the light source needs to be positioned in or around the habitat to provide adequate lighting or heat. Such positioning can often be dangerous to the animal, as the direct contact to the light would cause burns or even death.

The present invention provides means to protect against such direct contact while maintaining both adequate lighting and means to change the light bulb. The present invention is a protective screen guard having a screen element with spaced apart flanged fasteners for engaging the lip of a lamp, heat lamp, or the like.

Objects of the present invention:

  • to provide a light guard that protects inhabitants of aqauriums and terrariums from dangerous burn situations by preventing accidental contact between the living creature and the bulb

  • to provide a light guard that protects human handlers from becoming burned by a lamp when interacting and maneuvering items within a cage

  • to provide a light guard that protects the light bulb from breaking in case of mishandling

  • an optional additional element of the present invention protects the captive animal against exposure to light and heat by acting as an opaque deflector plate and redirecting heat produced by the light

  • to provide a light guard that is easily secured and/or removed from a lamp

The following pictures are meant to display possible physical characteristics of the present invention and are not to be taken in a limiting sense. It is understood that other embodiments may be utilized and that structural changes may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
