The present invention relates to a telephone, and more specifically to a telephone having a keypad including keys with dual functions. The keypad is capable of operating in a first mode as a standard telephone system keypad and in a second mode as an accounting style keypad. Activation of a switch switches the keypad functions between the first and second modes by switching the functions of the keys in the first and third rows of the keypad with one another.

Objects of the present invention:

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system that has a keypad including keys with dual functions

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system that includes a switch to change between the keypad functions

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system able to switch between a standard telephone mode and an accountant style telephone mode

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system wherein the characters on the keys correspond to the selected mode

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system wherein the standard telephone mode includes characters on the keys aligned in the standard telephone pattern

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system wherein the accountant style telephone mode includes characters on the keys aligned in the pattern of a calculator

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system wherein the function of keys in the second and fourth rows remains constant

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system wherein the function of the keys in the first and third rows of the keypad are switched with one another when changing the mode of operation

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system wherein indicator lights denote the current mode of operation

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system able to produce a reduction in the amount of misdialed telephone numbers

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system which can be applied to any style of telephone

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system that is simple and easy to use

  • to provide a switch dial telephone system that is inexpensive to manufacture and operate
