The present invention discloses an area rug having a cutout within the body for placement therein of an article of furniture. The cutout is sized to conform substantially to the footprint of the article's legs.

Objects of the present invention:

  • to provide an area rug for encompassing an article of furniture

  • to provide an area rug having a cutout for placing an article therein

  • to provide an area rug that encompasses three sides of an article of furniture

  • to provide an area rug that has a cutout with a plurality of apertures positioned on the cutout hem for receiving the article's legs

  • to provide an area rug that has a cutout with a frictional retaining member lining the cutout walls
